Hyperthyroidism in Dogs
Though rare in dogs, canine hyperthyroidism is due to a thyroid enlargement (medically called Functional Thyroid Edematous Hyperplasia). Canine hyperthyroidism is thought to be caused by thyroid carcinoma. Symptoms of canine hyperthyroidism include elevated heart rate; weight loss; increased appetite; nervousness and increased activity; and increase water intake and urination. Less common symptoms include decreased appetite, decreased activity, weakness and labored breathing.
