Information
What is ITP?
ITP, Idiopathic / Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura, is a blood disorder that is identified by having too few platelets (blood cells involved in clotting) and is common in dogs.
It is more common in female dogs than males. Like humans, the first signs of ITP may be hemorrhages of the skin and mucus membrane (nose or throat) without any other signs of disease.
The pet owner may also notice blood in the urine and the dog can have severe anemia.
