Phyllanthus is been used in Ayurvedic medicine for the last 2000 years to treat a variety of ailments to include jaundice, gonorrhea, diabetes, chronic dysntary, and frequent menstration.
Recently it has been found that Phyllanthus may help decrease the amount of hepatitis B virus found in the blood stream. It does not remove all of the virus, however, and should not be considered a cure.
It appears that the variety Phyllanthus urinaria is more effective as a treatment than the variety Phyllanthus amarus.
